In a digital landscape marked by fleeting attention spans and fierce competition, design must go beyond aesthetics to create meaningful connections. Bryan Oh, a New York City-based product designer and creative professional, exemplifies this approach. By seamlessly integrating creativity with functionality, he crafts user experiences that are intuitive, engaging, and memorable, helping his work stand out in a crowded field.

As brands compete across platforms to secure user loyalty, the ability to balance form and function has become essential. Bryan excels in this area, specializing in developing user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes that prioritize usability while delivering strong visual appeal.

At Superliminal, a renowned design and research firm, Bryan has applied his expertise to a wide range of industries. His projects include a range from designing digital experiences to luxury tile brands and developing digital products for construction equipment rental companies. His adaptive approach ensures that each project aligns with industry-specific needs while achieving both aesthetic and practical excellence.

Bryan’s work with Alfargo’s Marketplace further showcases his versatility. Partnering with iconic menswear brands such as Drop93, Drake’s, and Brooks Brothers, he uses his graphic design skills to develop marketing campaigns and promotional materials that amplify brand presence and storytelling.

By focusing on user needs and combining strategic design with creative storytelling, Bryan demonstrates how design can resonate deeply with audiences. His ability to deliver solutions that are both functional and visually compelling underscores his unique contribution to the evolving role of design in connecting people with ideas, brands, and experiences.

Crafting bold yet practical designs

For the Zelos Arenas app, Bryan skillfully combined vibrant branding with seamless functionality to create a platform where players could meet, compete, and win cash prizes. “It was essential to capture the platform’s competitive nature and high-energy branding,” Bryan explains, emphasizing his focus on bold, contrasting colors to reflect the app’s dynamic character. These design choices were paired with a dark background base, allowing patterns and colors to stand out, ensuring the visual experience aligned with the app’s energetic ethos.

Balancing this striking aesthetic with usability was a key priority for Bryan throughout the project. “Maintaining usability and legibility was also top priority,” he shares, underscoring his commitment to creating a design that was as functional as it was visually impactful. His approach not only delivered a bold, competitive identity for the app but also ensured that users could navigate and interact with the platform intuitively.

Bryan’s global design lens

Living and working in both the United States and Malaysia has profoundly shaped Bryan’s approach to design. “Design is inherently subjective,” he explains, noting that what resonates in one culture may not translate well in another. In Malaysia, design often embraces maximalism, while in the U.S., minimalism is more prevalent. This exposure to contrasting aesthetic preferences has helped him cultivate a deeper understanding of how to tailor solutions to diverse audiences.

Adapting to these distinct design philosophies has made Bryan a more versatile designer, capable of crafting solutions that align with specific cultural contexts and audience expectations. This cross-cultural perspective has sharpened his ability to navigate varying work cultures and aesthetic norms, ensuring his designs are both impactful and culturally resonant.

Luxury in focus

To enhance the user experience for a luxury tile brand, Bryan began by crafting a detailed design brief and establishing clear standards with the client. This process allowed him to identify existing UX challenges and outline specific areas for improvement. “I conduct extensive research on best practices through competitive analysis within adjacent and similar industries,” Bryan shares, a method that helps him uncover current trends and effective design solutions.

With a range of tailored strategies in hand, he introduced incremental improvements while ensuring alignment with the brand’s visual and functional goals. Although presenting new ideas can be challenging, Bryan focuses on demonstrating how these solutions connect to the design brief. “By advocating for these solutions through justification,” he explains, “this allows us to gradually explore new directions together.” The result is a user experience that remains intuitive and engaging, seamlessly aligning with both the brand’s storytelling and user needs.

Bringing brand stories to life

Collaborating on brand campaigns requires a delicate balance of creativity and respect for each brand’s identity. Bryan emphasizes that each partnership is more than a mere blend of two brands—it’s an opportunity to introduce a brand into new spaces while maintaining its authenticity. “Collaborations like these provide an opportunity to extend a brand’s reach, offering flexibility and openness to fresh ideas while maintaining alignment with its established image,” he explains. By deeply understanding each partner’s narrative, Bryan ensures that the designs not only resonate with their audience but also feel genuine and true to the brand’s essence.

For Alfargo’s Marketplace, this meant creating a brand identity that redefined the menswear space, blending the elegance of classic menswear with bold, playful energy to appeal to a modern audience. The logo wordmark, inspired by the nostalgia of mid-century fashion houses, evokes a timeless luxury reminiscent of vintage labels. Complementing this is the tortoise brand icon, a playful mascot that reinforces Alfargo’s ethos of celebrating slow fashion and true style.

This thoughtful design approach, Bryan notes, embodies the idea that “true style is always timeless.”

Through these projects, Bryan consistently introduces elements that elevate visual storytelling, capturing the charm and legacy of brands while ensuring relevance to contemporary audiences. His ability to blend bold, modern touches with authentic brand identities results in campaigns that not only meet but exceed client expectations, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.

Turning constraints into creativity

Design constraints, in Bryan’s perspective, are opportunities to explore new creative possibilities rather than limitations. “I see this as a chance to push my creativity in new directions and come up with designs that have a bigger impact,” he explains, highlighting his positive and adaptive approach. When faced with challenges, Bryan takes a moment to step back and reevaluate the project, giving himself the clarity needed to address limitations constructively.

Collaboration plays a pivotal role in his problem-solving process. “I connect with the clients to better understand what areas in the solution work and what don’t,” he shares. This open dialogue enables iterative refinements, often leading to results that differ from the original plan yet achieve a more polished and effective outcome. By embracing constraints as part of the creative journey, Bryan consistently delivers innovative designs that balance functionality and expression.

Visuals that speak the brand

Starting with a deep dive into the brand’s core audience, Bryan ensures that every visual element aligns with its identity and resonates with user expectations. “I work on understanding the brand’s core audience through immersion,” he shares, emphasizing the importance of grasping the brand’s values, mission, and narrative. This involves detailed research into the audience’s demographics, personas, and the associations they embrace, providing insights that guide the creative process.

By building a world around the audience, Bryan crafts designs that reflect their aspirations while effectively telling the brand’s story. This meticulous approach ensures that elements such as colors and typography not only resonate aesthetically but also reinforce the brand’s message, creating impactful visuals that authentically connect with its audience.

Where passion meets purpose

Building the brand image and narrative for Alfargo’s Marketplace stands out as a career highlight for Bryan, seamlessly blending his professional expertise with his personal passion for menswear. “This project was particularly meaningful because of my long-time passion for menswear,” he shares, describing how it allowed him to contribute his design skills to a community he deeply values. The project provided a creative platform to explore bold ideas and push design boundaries while maintaining a playful and engaging approach.

Through this experience, Bryan gained valuable insights into advocating for innovative concepts and incorporating his unique style into his work. “I learned to not be afraid to advocate for bold ideas that push boundaries,” he explains, highlighting the importance of staying true to one’s creativity while remaining adaptable. This philosophy continues to shape his design approach, inspiring him to craft solutions that are not only functional but also imaginative and reflective of his artistic flair.

Bryan excels in merging functionality with creativity, crafting visually compelling designs that align seamlessly with user needs and business goals. His innovative approach to digital and visual storytelling pushes the boundaries of what design can achieve, consistently delivering impactful results. Even beyond the design field, his work serves as a reminder that breaking free from limitations and fostering creative freedom can lead to extraordinary outcomes.
