Recent studies show that emotional intelligence (or EQ as it is commonly referred to) can have profound impacts on your career and personal life. While having more money, a better home situation or healthier relationships are all worthy goals, investing in your emotional well-being will give you something far greater than that.

This includes improving your empathy, self-confidence, motivation, and control of your emotions. These qualities are essential for happiness and wellness in your life.

It also means doing things like putting off a bad investment because you’ll be too upset about it. Or avoiding arguments with someone by instead doing what they ask you to do, then going back on it later when you’re calm.

In other words, being able to regulate your own emotions helps you enjoy the experiences in this world more and aids you in achieving your goals. And we live in an increasingly goal oriented society.

Something worth developing if you want to see the true potential of yourself.

Factors that affect our emotional intelligence

One of the most important things we can do to increase our emotional quotient is recognize when something is going wrong and why.

We are exposed to lots of different emotions throughout our lives, but what makes someone else feel certain feelings is not always easy for us to understand.

That is why it is so important to be aware of your own feelings.

By being conscious of your emotions you will be able to relate them to other people’s actions and talk about their feelings, which could help you develop strong relationships.

You will also have to deal with less positive ones such as frustration, anger or resentment without becoming too overwhelmed by them.

How to improve our emotional intelligence

Over the past few years, there has been an explosion of interest in what is now called emotional literacy or emotional quotient (EQ). Many feel that we are living in a constant state of stress due to all the pressures life places upon us, both internal and external.

We are constantly exposed to content and messages that can either make us stressed out or motivate and inspire us. It seems like every day there is a new topic about self-care and wellness being top internet trends.

In addition to this, people have become very conscious of their emotions and how they show up in relationships, at work, and for their kids. And while it was once considered a skill mostly enjoyed by the rich, emotion-related skills such as understanding others’ emotions and reading body language are increasingly seen as important leadership qualities.

There is even a growing school of thought that says developing your EQ could be the most important thing you do as early as college. Because we live in an ever-connected world where information spreads like wildfire, your feelings and reactions can have far reaching consequences.

Ways to be more emotional intelligent

In this video, psychologist Daniel Goleman discusses some ways you can improve your emotional intelligence (EI).

He notes that one of the most important things for developing his or her EI is understanding how emotions work. This happens when you understand what makes someone feel an emotion. For example, it’s not just knowing what words other people use to describe something as annoying or bad, but why they use those words.

It also means recognizing what types of facial expressions indicate certain feelings and what type of body language is associated with which feeling. All of these factors combine into one thing — how someone looks like they are feeling.

Another part of having high EI is using your own experiences to recognize and identify your own emotions. When you do this, you can better understand yourself and others around you. You also know if someone else has experienced the same thing as you and whether their actions show they have recovered from that experience or not.

You could say that having higher EI helps you relate to other people and teaches you about yourself.

Ways to be more empathic

One of the most important things we can work on our emotional intelligence is being aware and understanding emotions that other people may be feeling.

This is what makes us empaths, or individuals who understand and relate to the feelings of others.

Everyone has their own set of emotions they are familiar with, which help them function in everyday life. These include happy, sad, angry, scared, motivated, etc.

But if you have ever noticed that someone else around you seems less able to switch off some of these emotions then it might be time to call in an empath to help out.

It could be due to something they said or did, or maybe just because they seem like they are going through a tough period emotionally.

Ways to be more confident

Even though you may not feel very intelligent at times, that is totally okay! You are allowed to struggle with understanding how things work or why something seems logical.

Emotions come first for most people when they are in situations that require emotional control or understanding of concepts. Logic comes later for many.

It’s easy to think that because someone else around them appears more intelligent, that they have mastered logic and reasoning.

But, what about those who don’t seem quite as smart? They still have lots of skills under their belts that make them very successful.

They posses emotional intelligence which helps them deal with others and understand relationships.

This article will talk about some ways to develop your confidence.

Ways to be more social

Socializing is one of the most important things you can do for your emotional health. And while talking to people is definitely a way to enjoy your day, it goes beyond that. Being socially intelligent means understanding how different behaviors are coded as positive or negative interactions, knowing what types of conversations bring up past experiences for other people, and practicing these skills in real life.

This article will talk about some ways to be more sociable. They’re all focused on using non-verbal communication effectively, reading body language, recognizing emotions, and responding with appropriate levels of emotion. Some of these strategies apply at work, during informal talks with friends and family, and in casual encounters such as walking down the street or attending an event.

Other tips here relate only to improving relationships with others. These include changing habitual patterns in conversation, learning how to forgive and move on, and keeping commitments. While not always possible, thinking ahead and planning ahead makes it easier to keep promises and reduce pressure when you need to make a call or drop someone off somewhere.

Ways to be more happy

We are constantly seeking out ways to feel happier, but sometimes it is hard to know what makes us happy.

It’s easy to believe that being wealthy makes you happy, for example. But research shows that this isn’t always the case. In fact, studies show that when we’re in debt or struggling financially, money can make us less happy than if we didn’t have as much of it!

Similarly, thinking about how smart you are may make you feel smarter, but also made people who like you think you were too intelligent. You might even feel bad about yourself because you don’t feel very intelligent.

That’s why trying to learn something new is a great way to increase your happiness. Learning a new skill — anything from playing an instrument to learning a language to painting – this article will help you.

Thinking about all sorts of things can make you feel happier. Doing things outside your comfort zone (for example, diving into swimming after walking down the beach) can boost your mood. Reading, writing and talking about different topics can do the same.

Some experts say that practicing gratitude daily helps you feel happier. Thinking about everything you have instead of everything you want can shift your emotional state.

Ways to be a good leader

Being a great leader is not just about being really charismatic with your talking and leading skills, it is also about having high emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence (EI) refers to how well you understand and manage your emotions. It is actually considered a separate skill that goes beyond what we typically think of as “emotion” control.

Studies have shown that people who are highly emotionally intelligent tend to relate more effectively to others, show greater empathy, use less aggression, and experience lower stress than individuals with low EI.

Given that one of the key roles of leadership is helping colleagues feel valued and supported, this makes sense.

It can even go further – research suggests that having higher levels of EI may help leaders motivate their teams by drawing attention to the feelings and needs of other team members.
