What is an emotional quality? And what are some tips to improve your emotional qualities?

So, you’ve probably heard about your EQ (emotional quotient) before. Some people have even mentioned that having high levels of empathy makes you more likely to succeed in life.

But what does that mean?

Well, let’s think about that for a minute.

We all have different personality traits. We’re usually aware of our own strengths and weaknesses, but thinking about it, how many times has someone called you out on something, and then realized they were just very sensitive to things like that?

That’s why I believe it’s important to recognize other people’s emotional qualities. After all, we’re spending lots of time together, so it would be helpful to know each other well.

Something that most people don’t realize is that their emotions actually influence those around them. For example, if someone else feels stressed or overwhelmed, they may feel similarly. Or maybe because they perceive a lack of control, they’ll do something to try to gain control — which only adds to everyone else’s stress.

In this article, you’ll learn about seven easy ways to increase your emotional quality.

The 5 EI skills

emotional q

In between your logical reasoning (rational thinking) and emotional regulation, there are five specific emotions that play an important part in shaping how you interact with people. They’re called emotional intelligence (or EQ for short).

The term was first coined by Daniel Goleman in his bestselling book “Emotional Intelligence.” He defined it as the ability to recognize our own feelings and those of others, to be able to control our own emotions, to use emotion to motivate us, and to utilize emotion to facilitate productive relationships.

Since then, EQ has become one of the most popular concepts in psychology. Many experts believe it is a more fundamental talent than IQ, which we usually think of as logic or knowledge. This isn’t simply saying someone who is intelligent also possesses some level of EQ — it is separate brain function.

How to boost your emotional intelligence

Developing your EQ is like developing other skills — it takes work, effort, and practice. But there are some things you can do to improve your emotional quotient (EQ) quickly.

Start by looking at your own behavior. Are you someone who always seems happy and confident? If so, what makes you feel that way? What traits make you happier and more relaxed?

Think about it – when was the last time you saw someone with low EQ go through a difficult situation without breaking down? We’ve all seen people cry in front of a movie or TV show, but have you ever watched a movie or television show and thought, “Wow, those characters seem totally devoid of emotion!”?

That’s why it’s important to recognize emotions as an integral part of life. By doing this, you’ll be able to better understand others‘ behaviors and experiences, and learn how to apply these lessons to your own.

Take control of your emotions

emotional q

Acknowledging our feelings is an important part of being human. We feel emotional pain when things go wrong, we get excited about new opportunities, and sometimes we need to be upset or angry for us to realize how much someone cares about you.

When we try to avoid our emotions, they only grow stronger. The more we suppress them, the higher their intensity becomes.

So instead of suppressing your emotions, why not learn to recognize and manage them? This can help you focus on other things and reduce stress. It also helps in mental health by reducing worry and tension.

There are several strategies to do this. Some people prefer talking about their feelings, while others prefer doing something active that takes away less time. No matter which one works best for you, just make sure it’s productive and doesn’t hurt anyone else.

That said, here are some easy ways to start practicing emotion regulation.

Make smart decisions

emotional q

Even if you are making great choices, which is an incredibly hard thing to do at times, your emotions can still get in the way.

For example, let’s say you make an effort to eat only nutritious foods but then you see someone eating something that you like. Your brain may automatically reject this food because it likes the other one better.

Triggers such as these can be difficult to ignore. If you notice yourself becoming distracted or feeling nervous when you think about changing habits, try talking to yourself more gently. Tell yourself everything will be all right, and that you deserve to feel happy and healthy.

If you find yourself getting overwhelmed, take a break! Stop what you are doing for a few minutes and do something else that makes you feel happier. You can also talk to someone about how you felt and what was going through your mind.

And finally, remember that no matter what you decide to do, you will always have me as your number one fan. I will never give up on you, and I will keep supporting you even after you stop trying to control your own happiness.

Understand your emotions

emotional q

A lot of people think that once you get into an argument with someone, you should just let things roll from there.

But before that happens, you have to go through a process known as cooling down. This is when one person comes away feeling bad about what they did and the other person feels bad too, but at least they are still standing.

By this time, however, it can be hard to feel like everything is going back to normal. What happened made you both unhappy for some reason, so trying to work out why is important.

It may be because of something said or done, maybe even a perception of how things are between you two.

If you try to talk about these issues, the chances are that you will start arguing again. Both of you could end up hurting each other more than was needed.

That’s not worth the effort we wanted to have. So, take a break until you both feel relaxed again. Don’t discuss anything major, though.

This article has given you strategies for avoiding power struggles in relationships.

Practice meditation

Meditation is a great way to reduce stress and promote emotional wellness. There are many types of meditation, from simple relaxation exercises to more in-depth practices.

Many people begin practicing meditation for this reason. Others may find that their meditation practice helps them achieve other goals, such as improving focus or sleep quality.

There are several different schools of thought about how much time should be spent on a meditation session. Some say you can start with just five minutes a day and work your way up, while others suggest longer sessions every few days to really benefit from it.

Whatever length of time you choose to spend on each meditation, remember that it’s not important to keep going indefinitely. Take breaks when needed! Start small, and add more time as you feel comfortable.

Once you have mastered the basics of meditation, you can continue to pursue these benefits beyond what we mentioned before.

Get enough sleep

emotional q

Let’s look at some reasons why getting enough sleep is so important. First, sleep helps you to regulate your moods and emotions. When we are not sleeping well, it can have an impact on how we feel day to day.

Sleep also aids in regulating stress hormones like cortisol that help us deal with difficult or stressful situations. Unfortunately, too much stress can negatively affect our health and wellness.

Drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, eating junk food, and being stressed all deplete sleep as resources.

Tone your muscles

emotional q

A few more things to know about emotional quashing is trying to suppress your emotions by not showing them. If you’re always keeping yourself busy, you can avoid having time to feel how you really want to feel.

This can help temporarily, but it will only make matters worse in the long run. You’ll be even more stressed out and overwhelmed with feelings later.

Avoid engaging in any activities that could potentially cause strong emotions – this includes talking or thinking about something that has made you feel bad or left you feeling hurt or disappointed.

If you find that you are constantly being drawn into other people’s arguments, try to limit their opportunities to speak to prevent them from getting their point across.

Similarly, if you notice someone looking particularly upset, give them some space by stepping back and ignoring whatever conversation they were involved in. Don’t get distracted either – keep focused on your own tasks for now.

When possible, see if there are any supportive groups or individuals around you who don’t seem too affected by what’s going on. Talk to them, and ask whether they’ve been able to work through similar issues.

Disclaimer: These strategies should be used as a last resort option for escaping negative moods.
