The golden question is one of the most powerful tools in emotional intelligence (or EQ as some call it). It comes from the ancient practice of asking open-ended questions to determine what you want or need. In this case, your desire or need is for understanding how other people feel and why they behave the way they do.

This type of question has become popular again with the rise of social media sites like Facebook. People have adapted the golden question to ask about someone’s thoughts and feelings on a topic so that they can get more information.

But there are two things almost everyone does not know about the golden question. One is that it cannot be asked directly unless you are willing to put yourself out there and expose something about yourself. This could mean telling someone that you believe them when they say they will never break up with their partner even though you disagree, or telling someone that they should give up drinking because it hurts others around them, or telling someone that they cannot trust certain individuals due to suspicions of fraud or theft.

The second thing few realize about the golden question is that while it sounds simple, creating it takes time. You must first figure out what you want to know about the person before you begin asking. This process can take anywhere from days to weeks depending on how well you are able to read people.

Once you have determined what you want to learn, then you must find a comfortable place to ask your golden question.

The golden question

What is my greatest weakness?

This questions asks you to think about what parts of your life you feel are not strong, what weaknesses you have.

By asking this question, I believe it creates in you a sense of motivation to fix these weaknesses.

It gives you an incentive to work on yourself and improve upon those areas that you know need some work.

In addition, people perceive others who ask this as someone with low self-esteem which can be used to their advantage.

If one was to try and answer this question they would face many difficulties. It is very hard to identify your own strengths unless you have experienced major failures or poor performance.

Furthermore, people differ in how they define strength and weakness. Some may see having a close family as a strength while other’s may view it as a weakness because it takes away from their independence.

Examples of the golden question

The next time you are having a conversation with someone, ask them if they want to talk about something important. If they agree, then do it!

Ask your friend how their day was or what they were doing before you arrived. Then, make a comment about your shared interest and see where the discussion takes you.

This way, you will have given your friend the opportunity to be honest and tell you what is going on for them. You can also use this as an excuse to check in with people and get to know them more deeply.

By asking how things are, you create space for conversations that matter. This goes beyond just talking about sports or politics — anything that has substance can fall under that category.

Emotional intelligence is a term used to describe our ability to recognize, understand, manage, and utilize emotions we come into contact with daily.

So why would being emotionally intelligent be helpful? Because we all have different levels of emotional intelligence depending on what situations we are in and what people we are interacting with.

Having high emotional intelligence helps us achieve goals by understanding other people’s perspectives and changing strategies when needed.

It also helps us cope better with stress because we are aware of its effects and learn how to avoid getting overwhelmed.

Last, emotional literacy means knowing what emotion shapes like anger, fear, sadness, joy, and so on.

Benefits of being an emotionally intelligent person

Being able to recognize, understand and control your emotions is one of the most important qualities in human beings. It’s also a powerful tool for improving your overall emotional health and wellness.

Many professionals talk about having emotional intelligence (EI). That term seems to have gone mainstream as it’s been featured in media and marketing campaigns across industries.

But what does it really mean? And how can you improve your EI level?

We’ll go into more detail below, but first, let us define emotion.

Ways to become more emotional intelligent

Being emotionally intelligent means being aware of your emotions and how they affect others. You are not, however, when you use emotion as a tool for success.

Emotional intelligence can be helpful in many ways. For example, if you want someone to trust you, then show them that you understand their feelings. If you want people to like you, ask about their hobbies and get into conversations that matter to them.

But using emotion to gain an advantage is not okay. Using anger or fear to manipulate other people is not emotional intelligence; it is manipulative.

Seek feedback

As mentioned earlier, emotional intelligence is like IQ for emotions. Just as you have to test your general intelligence by taking exams, you must assess your emo-intelligence through self-evaluation and experiences with others.

Ask yourself how you feel when someone does something that makes you angry or happy. What are their reasons? Are they just trying to be helpful or do they want something for themselves?

Analyze why people say things and what they mean so you can recognize it later. Does he/she make sense? Is she/he being honest? When you are able to identify these traits, you will know how to respond effectively.

You should also ask those around you about their feelings and reactions. People may not tell you everything, but listening well and using logical reasoning can help you understand their inner workings.

Take up meditation

If you’re struggling to find motivation for daily yoga or meditation, then try asking yourself one of our golden questions.

The same question can be applied to any goal — whether it’s eating healthier, going back to school, or taking better care of your mental health.

By asking ourselves this question, we create a framework which helps us connect what we want with who we are.

We become more aware of why we’re doing something and what will help us succeed in our goals. We also recognize that coming from a place of desire is much more effective than neediness or obligation.

Journal more

A golden question is one that helps you explore important parts of yourself or your life. It can be asked at any time, not just when there are emotions in place. This way, it does not have to do with what mood you are in, which makes it very versatile.

The most common version of this question is something like “What are you feeling right now?” but there are many versions of it. Some say “What is making you feel unhappy today?” or even just “What are you thinking about?”

There are several benefits to journaling. First, it can help you deal with emotional issues. For example, writing down thoughts and feelings can make them go away because you take note of them and put them into other contexts.

Second, it can help you understand yourself better. When you look back over your notes, you can analyze how things changed for you and why.

Third, it can help you achieve your goals. By noting events and lessons from past experiences, you can use what you learned then as a basis for coming up with new strategies for achieving similar results.

Fourth, it can boost self-confidence and happiness. Noticing patterns and figuring out how to change them can give you inspiration and motivation.

Fifth, it can save you money. The same thing applies to the second benefit: understanding yourself.

Speak with your friends

As discussed earlier, asking people about their day is one of the golden questions that can help you stay connected to those who matter most to you. But what if they don’t respond?

That could be because they are too focused on their own problems or issues to talk about yours. Or maybe they don’t want to get distracted by your troubles at this moment.

Alternatively, they may not feel like talking right now but would still like to offer advice or suggestions for how to solve your problem.

By being aware of these types of responses, you will know when it’s time to ask another golden question — why are you crying?

This question is different from the others in two key ways. First, it’s direct – it doesn’t require an answer as such, instead simply drawing out the conversation. And second, it’s only meant to probe deeper into whether someone is currently feeling good or bad, not if they are having a tough day.
