Being a productive person means learning how to manage your time. It’s not just about being able to do all of the things you want to, it’s also about knowing what you should be doing at any given moment and making sure you don’t waste precious resources by giving yourself too much work to do.
Time is one of our most valuable resources. As we age, we find ourselves having less and less of it due to responsibilities coming up and life getting in the way. This can cause us to feel stressed out, overwhelmed, and even panicked.
We sometimes get so focused on accumulating more hours that we forget to enjoy them. Learning how to use your time effectively will allow you to relax and focus on the important tasks in your life.

Commit to a plan
Time is one of our most important resources, and we as humans don’t spend it wisely. It can be spent doing things that make us feel good in the short term but cost us later, like drinking or smoking or spending time with people who put you down instead of supporting you.
We also don’t seem to keep track of how much we have left until late, when we are trying to get something done.
A lot of people get distracted by too many things, which is why they never seem to find time to do anything. If you are one of these people, here are some ways to deal with it.
Remove unnecessary gadgets from your desk or work area. You can keep what essentials you need – phone, computer, tablet, etc. – but other things don’t belong there.
Don’t let friends come around and ask you to do something outside of work; if they really want to be involved, they will make their own plans without asking you first.
Avoid having conversations that could easily turn into longer ones; instead, try for shorter, more focused chats. When you have time to connect, then that’s good enough!
If possible, leave messages and emails until you have time to respond to them, same way you would put off doing an assignment at school.
Make yourself a schedule and stick to it, even if you only manage part of it every day. Make sure you don’t over-commit though, as this could backfire.
Take breaks, and don’t spend all night working. Give yourself time for food, drink, and sleep, just like you would at home.
Plan ahead and allocate adequate time for each task, and stick to those schedules.
Make it your priority
Now that you have identified your time wasters, it is time to make being time management your top priority. You will want to do something about them immediately!
If you don’t, you may find yourself with no time left for things that matter most to you – like family, friends, work, and hobbies. It’s important to recognize what matters most to you and invest in those relationships accordingly.
And while it may be hard at times, remember that you can’t achieve your dreams if you don’t set aside time to pursue them.
It may take some effort at first to identify your time thieves, but once done, you will feel so much better knowing you took action and invested in other areas of your life.
Being able to time manage your time effectively is a learned skill that takes practice, but once you have it down, you can achieve great things.
It will take some re-evaluation of how you spend your time, but eventually you’ll get the hang of it. You'll learn how to prioritize tasks and find new ways to organize and track time.
And don't worry about being too tight with money if you're trying to be more efficient with your time. Many people make large income commitments by putting in extra hours or working outside of normal business hours.
By having extra time after work for hobbies and family life, you'll also have enough time to relax and unwind.
Work in small pieces
A second way to be more efficient with your time is by working in small pieces instead of whole hours at a time. This can mean anything from an hour here or there, to half-hour breaks throughout the day, or even shorter intervals of time like ten minutes here and there.
By breaking up his work, you’ll give yourself the chance to take a break if needed, and you’ll feel less overwhelmed because you only have limited amounts of time. You will also get the opportunity to refresh and relax after completing a piece of work.

Self-care isn’t just for sick or disabled people – anyone can benefit from taking care of themselves. It sets up our mental and physical health as the main priorities instead of being focused only on work.
A way to be time efficient with your time is by automating or doing things yourself less of times. Do you have to take a bath every night? You can hire someone else to do it for you, or even install water-bath timers so that you don’t need to!
Similarly, if you have to organize all your papers and materials before you start studying or working, you can use software or apps to help you manage this. Or, you can ask family and friends to keep an eye out for anything important you might lose and save it from getting discarded.

Learn to prioritize
A lot of people get time management wrong by trying to do everything in a given amount of time. This is not a good way to manage your time!
If you try to do too much, you will always be busy, but you won’t spend enough time on any one thing. You will become very stressed out and overwhelmed.
You need to learn how to prioritize. Do what needs to be done first, then work from there on.
Prioritizing means creating an order that makes sense to you and your life. Yours may include family, work, hobbies, etc.
Once you have learned how to prioritize, you can use your time efficiently. Also, once you have mastered this concept, you can apply it to anything – whether it’s for a few minutes or for hours.
