Time management isn’t something that happens overnight. It takes work to achieve success with it. But if you are willing to put in the effort, I promise it will pay off.
You will find yourself enjoying the fruits of your labor much more quickly if you learn how to manage your time effectively. Plus, there are lots of ways to make money online, but only few people succeed at it consistently. So why not try it?
If you are still skeptical about whether or not you have the necessary time management skills, here are 10 things you can do to prove otherwise.
A lot of people get distracted by too many things in their life, which is why they do not achieve much. They are constantly starting new projects or tasks that are more interesting but less important than what they were before.
If you want to accomplish something, you have to be very careful about keeping focus on only one thing at a time. It can be difficult sometimes when your mind gets busy with lots of different thoughts and possibilities, but you need to learn how to manage your time so that you do not spend too much time on anything.
It will take practice, but once you develop the skill it will great yourslef help you succeed.
You will find that you are more productive and effective during times you are managing your time well. In fact, you will eventually run out of time because you spent all its resources on good work.
There are several ways to organize your time. For example, you could use task lists to track everything from appointments to assignments to meetings. Or, you could use applications such as Google Calendar to keep an eye on the timing of events.
Whatever method works for you, just make sure you use it every day without any special circumstances.
Make it a priority
A few years ago, I would have said that time management was not important- you are spending your life working, so why should you care how you spend it? But today, time is one of our most valuable resources.
If you want to make progress in your career, you need to manage your time well. And if you’re looking for someone else to do your time managing for you, try to find yourself first before helping others achieve their dreams.
You can’t help anyone until you understand what makes you feel good about yourself and what doesn’t. So take some time to work on yourself — learn new skills, get into shape, save money, etc.
Once you've got those things under control, then you can focus on helping other people achieve the same thing.
The next skill you need to develop is how to take time off or give up something you want to do in order to accomplish an important task. This will require that you are able to recognize when it’s time to stop working and relax, and also be capable of giving up your desire to keep going until you hit your goal.
It may sound crazy but I assure you it works!
I know this from personal experience because as a young professional, I needed to learn how to do this. In fact, I still very much need to work on it even now as a parent.
You see, as parents, no matter what we put into our day, there’s always something more we feel we have to do. We feel like we can never really rest because someone else needs us, we have commitments we need to fulfill, we promised we would do so-and-so, etc., and we just don’t seem to have enough time.
We become busybodies who are constantly trying to make sure everything gets done. And we get tired and stressed out.
Work on your work-life balance
A lot of people think that having time is a luxury that only wealthy individuals have, but it’s actually something most of us need to learn how to achieve. After all, successful people are usually seen as productive and busy – they spend their days working hard and spending time with friends and family.
It’s easy to get distracted at work, which can make completing tasks more difficult. And since we’re hired for our job skills, this sometimes leads to higher levels of stress. This can be particularly tough if you don’t take breaks or go home every night, because you feel like you’re wasting your time when you could be earning money instead.
Time management isn’t just about being able to tell what you should be doing next, it also means knowing how to relax and enjoy yourself. It’ll help you focus less on your career and more on living your life outside of work.
Make it a routine
Now that you have identified what skills you need to manage your time, how do you get those skills? The first way is to make time management a part of your daily life.
This means making it an everyday thing where you treat time as a resource instead of something you are running out of. This changes the perception of time so that you no longer feel stressed about spending it.
Instead, you can use time efficiently by giving yourself deadlines and keeping track of how much time you have left. By doing this every day, you will automatically stick to your schedule and avoid wasting any time.
Take on a mentor
One of the greatest ways to learn time management is by taking on a mentorship or “shadow” job. This can be a part-time position, even if only for one day a week, or full time depending on what you are able to offer.
By having a mentor who teaches you their work practices, how they handle tasks, and any tips and tricks they have, you will not face this challenge alone!
There are many types of mentorships that differ in terms of length and type. Some may just need an hour of your time once a month while others could take up more of your time.
Whatever style fits you the best, there are plenty out there with different levels of experience so do not hesitate to look into those.
Create an action plan
Now that you have identified your time wasting activities, it is time to create your action plan!
First, determine how much time you spend on each of these behaviors and what can be done about them. For example, if you find yourself distracted by email while working, then you should make sure to set regular times when you check email. Or you could use an app like Evernote where you save all your important messages so you do not access them online.
For other things such as TV or YouTube binges, there are ways to reduce this time. If you know you’re going to watch a movie at night, pack your bag with snacks and drinks ahead of time and put the box in the closet. Then, before you go to sleep, turn off the lights, cover up the room, and get some good sleep.
After doing these changes for a few weeks, see how you feel and whether or not they worked.
